About: The word Tabu is from the Polynesian Tongan people’s tongue and means, ‘Set apart or Forbidden’ which sets the tone for this unparalleled restaurant located in Laguna Beach. Tabu Grill is ‘in its stride’ as it continually serves a highly sought-after menu in a rousing ambiance to achieve a coveted Zagat score of Extraordinary to Perfection year after year. The Chef has created a selection of dishes that inspire and delight the senses using only the finest of seasonal fresh ingredients. Chef blends flavors from the pacific in a subtle and intensely flavorful way. In the open kitchen one can watch the performance unfold. There clearly is a love of meat dishes here but there are plenty of deliciously done seafood choices as well. Some standouts include the Mero Sea Bass served with asparagus, braised salsify, baby spinach, beach mushrooms, truffle soy yuzu, and citrus salad; Filet Mignon with confit root vegetables, whiskey braised onion, arugala, maple mustard emulsion, and shaved foie torchon; and a Snake River Farms Berkshire Pork Chop with corn, snap peas, yam succotash, apple smoked bacon, sweet corn grits  and apple cream jus. A beautiful selection of some fine eclectic and small production wines is small but well thought out. The wines are focused on California, but the list is well rounded by the additions from Washington, Oregon, Chile, Argentina, New Zealand, Bordeaux,  Burgundy, Rhone, Champagne, and Italy.
